NICU Family +
Infant Mental Health

Jessica readily supports the parent-child/ parent-infant relationship via assessment, intervention, and consultation using an infant mental health framework. She implements a relationship-based approach to support and mentor clients while strengthening attachment, understanding and communication between parents and children. Jessica is also versed in a wide array of modalities focused on helping young children better process their feelings and engage in the world through play.

After almost a decade working in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), Jessica has a special interest and passion in supporting families who have a baby in the NICU. Jessica is trained in Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP). The NIDCAP approach strives to create a supportive, gentle environment for the most fragile infants in the NICU. NIDCAP is both a philosophy and practice that informs our unique form of care. From years of observing infants in the NICU, Dr. Heidelise Als, of Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, and her colleagues pioneered a way to read infant behavior so that we may hear their voice and understand them. This practice has taught us what the infant expects for comfort, wellbeing and a sense of security so vital to healthy development.
